Health Information Management (HIM) improves the quality of health care by insuring that the best information is available to make any healthcare decision. HIM professionals manage healthcare data and information resources. The profession encompasses services in planning, collecting, aggregating, analyzing, and disseminating individual patient and aggregate clinical data. It serves the healthcare industry including: patient care organizations, payers, research and policy agencies, and other healthcare related industries.
The mission of the Department is to educate and prepare professionals with knowledge needed to ensure accessibility, accuracy, availability, integrity, and security of patient’s Health information.
Health Information Management Admission Requirements
- National Diploma (ND) Requirement: Five (5) O’L Credit in English language, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and one other subject from Geography, Economics, Religious Studies and national Language. Duration: 2 years + 1 year (IT)
- Professional Diploma (PD) Requirement: Three (3) O’L credit in English Language, Mathematics/ Biology/Health Science and two passes in Physics or Chemistry and any other Subject. Duration: 3 years (Approved and Accredited by Health Records Officers Registration Board of Nigeria)
