COMMUNITY HEALTH EXTENSION WORKERS (CHEW)

Overview

COMMUNITY HEALTH EXTENSION WORKERS (CHEW) is one of the Departments in Interlink College of Health Technology. The Department was Accredited in the year 2019 which implies the Community Health Extension Workers and Junior Community Health Extension Worker. They are frontline public Health workers who have a close understanding of the Community they serve. This trusting relationship enables them to serve as a liaison/link/intermediary between health/social services and the Community to facilitate access to services and improve the quality and cultural competence of Service Delivery. Community Health workers also build individual and community capacity by increasing Health knowledge and self-sufficiency through a range of activities such as outreach, Community Education Informal Counseling, Social support and Advocacy.

The Community Health Registration Board of Nigeria (CHRBN) is responsible for the Training and Regulation of the students in the Department. The Community Health Registration Board of Nigeria (CHRBN) handed over the curriculum of training both in theory and practical to the college for specialized lecturers and tutors to inculcate knowledge to the students.

Junior Community Health Extension Workers (JCHEW) are structured to last for 2 years, of four (4) semesters; while the Community Health Extension Workers (CHEW) are three (3) years running six (6) semesters.

EXTRACURICULAR ACTIVITES SUCH AS:

  • Sports for male and female
  • Community sanitation/Environmental sanitation during the student week
  • Participation in Community Health Student events across the country.
